Harris County Commissioners Court unanimously appointed Phil Camus as Precinct Five Constable on May 1, 2007.  He was later elected to the position in November 2008. Since then, he has continued to tap a lifetime of law enforcement leadership experience and an inexhaustible dedication to honor and public safety to maintain professionalism and integrity in his office.

Constable Camus has dedicated his life to keeping neighborhoods, communities and families safe. He spent four years in the United States Air Force and joined the Houston Police Department in 1957. During 28 years with HPD, he developed a solid and broad foundation in law enforcement by working in a variety of different divisions.

In 1985, after retiring from HPD, Camus joined Precinct Five as a deputy in the popular and effective Contract Deputy Program. He was promoted to Chief Deputy in 1989 – a position he held under the late Precinct Five Constable Glen Cheek.

Constable Camus and his wife, Margaret, are involved in the community and enjoy many activities together. Phil is a fitness enthusiast with a love for gardening and his two German Shepherds. He is a member of the 100 Club and the Houston Retired Police Officers Association.
